Cataracts

The Doctors at First Eye Associates specialize in state of the art cataract surgery to restore youthful vision and reduce the need for glasses. Utilizing a no-stitch procedure a 2.4 mm incision is made. The cataract is removed using ultrasound also called Phacoemulsification. Once the cataract material has been removed an intraocular lens (IOL) is folded and inserted through the original small incision. The procedure is performed as an out-patient procedure.

Our surgeons use the latest in lens technology namely the Tecnis Symfony and Symfony Toric IOL to give our patients the optimal in vision correction after cataract surgery. The Tecnis Symfony IOL is the first and only Extended Depth of Focus IOL that provides continuous, high-quality vision at any distance. The Tecnis Symfony Toric IOL is designed to help those with astigmatism and may help our patients regain the clear, crisp vision of their youth. While reducing the patients dependency on contacts or glasses for distance the patient still may need correction for near vision after surgery. First Eye Associates utilizes the latest technology and instrumentation to determine the best surgical approach for each patient including those who have had previous surgery such as Radial Keratomy and Lasik.

Specialty IOL’s are not completely covered by insurance. Please ask our surgery coordinators for information.

“Back in a recovery area, Henry said she could see the face of a person across the room, something she couldn’t have done before without glasses. At a follow-up appointment, both her near and distance vision were 20/20. She had her left eye treated Sept. 15. Two other ophthalmologists who operate at the Miracle Hills center, Dr. Matthew Brumm and Dr. Carol Drake, also implanted their first Symfony lenses this month.”
